VMRC to hold five public hearings Tuesday

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission will hold five public hearings on an assortment of fisheries matters beginning at noon Tuesday at commission headquarters in Newport News.

Two of the hearings are being held to incorporate emergency amendments approved last month as final amendments related to the crab and spiny dogfish fisheries. Remaining hearings will be held on increasing Virginia’s portion of the coast-wide total allowable landings for menhaden; establishing a limited-area open crab fishery along the near-coastal area blue crab sanctuary that is closed to commercial crabbing from May 9 through Sept. 15, and rescinding the commercial license fee increase that was scheduled to go into effect this December.
