A new, Native American-owned pharmacy is opening in the former Gloucester Pharmacy suite next to Food Lion. Del. Keith Hodges, Chief Pharmacy Officer for UMIT, started off the ribbon-cutting ceremony with a message to the attendees and community. “One of the things that I like most—I mean, I love being behind the counter, but the best part is the people,” he said. “It’s all of you, that’s what makes it all worthwhile, and we’re thrilled to be able to serve our community.” UMIT Health, owned by the Upper Mattaponi Indian Tribe, opened Aylett Family Wellness, a community focused clinic at Aylett in 2021, Hodges explained. After a survey of the surrounding area—which showed one provider for every 6,000 people, the decision to open a clinic to help both tribal members and the entire community was made.
