Vintage sedan owned by Glenns couple in major film

Glenns residents George and Donna Smith recently had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have something of their own featured in a Hollywood film.

The Smiths’ 1952 Chevrolet four-door sedan took a prominent role in the film, “Loving,” based on the true story of Richard and Mildred Loving, who were arrested in 1958 for violating a Virginia law that, at that time, prohibited interracial marriage. The couple sued, and their case was ultimately heard in 1967 by the U.S. Supreme Court, becoming a landmark civil rights case in defense of marriage equality.

It was happenstance that the Smiths’ beloved antique car was in the motion picture, which was filmed in part in Brunswick County, and even more special that they were told the car will take a more prominent role in the film than many of the other flashier vehicles that were also on the set.
