VIMS to host lab on bioluminescence on Tuesday

The Virginia Institute of Marine Science will host a Discovery Lab on Bioluminescence on Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. online via Zoom.

According to VIMS, there are many species of marine life that are bioluminescent, having the ability to produce and emit light. They use this amazing ability to hunt for and attract prey, defend against predators, and communicate with other members of their species.

During this Discovery Lab, attendees will learn about many of the unique marine organisms that have this ability and conduct experiments that explore the world of bioluminescence in the ocean.

These labs provide fun, family-friendly opportunities to learn about the Chesapeake Bay and the local environment. Each lab includes a short presentation followed by activity demonstrations and trivia games. Resources are also provided for kids and adults to further their exploration of the topic at home.
