Are you ready for some football?
The Virginia High School League released its initial master football schedule on Tuesday, and both the Gloucester and Mathews high school teams will start their seasons with home games on Friday, Aug. 29.
Gloucester
The Gloucester Dukes will kick off the season on Aug. 29 against the visiting New Kent Trojans. That will be followed by two away games—Jamestown (Sept. 5) and Grafton (Sept. 11)—after which the Dukes will get a bye week, returning on Oct. 3 to host Bruton.
The rest of the season includes away games against Poquoson (Oct. 10), Tabb (Oct. 24) and Smithfield (Oct. 31) and home games against Lafayette (Oct. 17) and Warhill (Nov. 7). All games begin at 7 p.m.
Mathews
The Mathews Blue Devils meanwhile will welcome the Cumberland Dukes to Ken Brown Field on Aug. 29. Following that, Mathews will have an away game at Colonial Beach (Sept. 9), with home games the next two weeks against Sussex Central (Sept. 12) and Rappahannock (Sept. 19). The Devils...
