A design public hearing on bike and pedestrian improvements to Route 17 and Gloucester Main Street will be held by VDOT from 4-6 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 29, at Gloucester Main Library, 6920 Main Street, Gloucester. The public is encouraged to attend. VDOT has also announced willingness to hold a public hearing on a sidewalk project planned for Route 14 at Mathews High School in Mathews. The public may request such a hearing by Feb. 5. Gloucester The Gloucester improvements will include a 10-foot-wide shared use path to improve bicyclist and pedestrian access along Main Street between T.C. Walker Road and Route 17. The path would be located along the southbound lane. Pedestrian crossing signal equipment would also be added at the southernmost intersection of Main Street and Route 17. Additionally, a new five-foot section of sidewalk would be installed for 0.18 mile along the frontage of Fox Mill Centre.
