Virginia Department of Transportation crews and Dominion Virginia Power personnel were in storm mode once again Wednesday morning, preparing for what could be the third round of winter weather facing the region so far this winter.

The National Weather Service, Wakefield, issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Gloucester and Mathews counties, in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. today. Snow and sleet, with accumulations of 1-2 inches, were expected Wednesday evening before a changeover to all rain later that night.

Whenever there is a forecast of ice or heavy and wet snow, power crews brace for the worst. According to Dominion spokesperson Bonita Harris, company trucks were being stocked and fueled as early as Tuesday, and crews were being made ready to respond to outages. Even though she was not expecting a major impact for Hampton Roads, Harris said Dominion was leaving ample coverage in the area in the event they were needed.
