Vashti’s holds ribbon cutting ceremony

Vashti’s Jewelers held a ribbon cutting ceremony Nov. 4 for its new store at Edgehill Town Center, Gloucester.

The new store is located only yards away from its previous location in the center’s annex, which will be razed for a parking lot.

Ellis Hall of Gloucester, who owns the center with his relatives through the Hall Family Trust, told about 50 people who attended the ceremony that he is proud to have leased space to Vashti’s for 50 years. It is quite an achievement for a business to be run by three generations of the same family, Hall said.

Vashti Wilcher of Hayes, started the business 53 years ago near the Gazette-Journal building on Main Street. Wilcher worked there for many years and was succeeded by her daughter, Joan Roane. Roane, who is now semi-retired from the business and resides in Mathews, was succeeded as manager last winter by her own daughter, Nicole Michael of Gloucester.
