Less than a week into the Atlantic hurricane season, Tropical Storm Andrea has formed in the Gulf of Mexico and was already impacting the Middle Peninsula with heavy rain Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, Andrea is currently moving northeast over the Carolinas and is rapidly losing its tropical characteristics.

The storm is expected to drop between one and two inches of rainfall on the area Friday and an additional three quarters of an inch Friday night. The entire area is under a flood watch the remainder of Friday due to the heavy rainfall, as tidal flooding is not expected to be a major concern with this system.

Breezy conditions are expected with southeast winds from 13 to 15 miles per hour Friday switching over to west winds from 9 to 14 miles per hour Friday night.
