TURNER ASHBY WALTHALL JR.

Turner Ashby Walthall Jr., of Yorktown, a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, passed peacefully into the presence of Jesus on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 8:25 a.m. He is survived by his wife, Judith Christian Rowe Walthall. A.T. and Judy were happily married for 64 years and had five children: David, Lisa, Mark, Matthew, and Mary Susan. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Martha E. Walthall and James Hayes Walthall; his maternal grandparents, Ginny Haury and Earl Haury; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Turner Ashby Walthall Sr.; his brother, Arthur Wayne Walthall; his daughter, Lisa Paige Walthall; his nephew, Christopher Neil Walthall, and his cousin, Michael Haury.

A.T., affectionally known as the “Duke,” was a gifted multisport athlete at Gloucester High School and earned a basketball scholarship at Virginia Tech. A.T.’s career started at the Newport News Shipyard as a Rad-Con supervisor, worked at NASA Langley as a foreman, was a successful real estate agent for several years, built and remodeled homes and then started his own contracting company with his sons, Walthall Contractors.

Spiritual growth was a priority for A.T. He was ordained as a deacon in the 1970s at Gloucester Point Baptist Church. He also moved to York County shortly after where he joined Bethel Baptist Church serving as a Sunday school teacher with his wife, as a deacon and faithful greeter. A.T.’s interests were God, church, family, friends, work, sports, sports, and more sports. He was the best “Dad coach.” He was a golf coach at Hampton Christian Academy, referee for RCC basketball, scratch golfer, and great encourager. He was a giver of time, especially to his beloved wife and family.

On Friday, May 15, 2026, at Hogg Funeral Home, the family will receive friends from 11-11:45 a.m., followed by a noon service, conducted by Pastor Doug Echols, in the funeral home chapel. The interment will follow in Gloucester Point Cemetery.

A memorial golf tournament honoring A.T. will be planned in the near future.
