Travers Thompson, age 93, passed away peacefully at his home in Cobbs Creek, on Jan. 5, 2018 after a short battle with cancer, with his wife of 72 years by his side.

He was born on Jan. 29, 1924 on Goshen Farm in Redart. Cmdr. Thompson retired from the United States Navy after 30 years of service. 

Travers was preceded in death by his son, John Travers Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Trudy Thompson; daughter, Debbie Thompson; grandchildren, E. Jeffrey Thompson (Robin) and Tracey Thompson; great-grandson, John Travers Thompson II; daughter-in-law, Sharon Thompson; brother, Gilbert Thompson and his family.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church, Cobbs Creek, at 2 p.m. The family received friends prior to the service, beginning at 1 o’clock. Burial with full military honors followed at Haynes Cemetery.

Faulkner Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, assisted the family with arrangements.
