Thomas Michael Barrett, 55, of Maryland, died May 3, 2016.

Survivors include his wife, Liisa Franzén, and children, Janos and Marja-Helena.

He was a Gloucester resident from 1970-1978.

Dr. Barrett was a professor of history at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and had served as a mentor and guide to generations of students since he was first hired as an instructor in 1995.

A memorial service is planned for the fall semester at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
