120 YEARS AGOThursday, March 22, 1906from the Mathews Journal Mr. Walter E. Hudgins near Diggs Wharf lost his horse last Sunday night. The horse seemed all right at feeding time, but was taken suddenly ill and died before morning. Mr. Charles Owens is making quite an improvement to his storehouse at Susan, building a piece to it which makes double the room and adds greatly to its appearance. Mr. Grover Armistead is going in as a partner with him. Charles Lewis of Hallieford gave a delightful hayride last week. The girls seemed to enjoy it very much. 110 YEARS AGOThursday, March 23, 1916from the Mathews Journal In a statement given to the Associated Press last week the DuPont Company confirmed the reports that a dynamite plant will be built on the York River below Williamsburg. The size and capacity of the proposed plant was not stated.
