Martha Soles built The Silver Box LLC from a home business started in 2001 to its current location at 6630 Main Street, Gloucester, specializing in ladies apparel, accessories, jewelry, shoes, children’s clothing and men’s shirts.

Growing up in Gloucester, Soles developed deep roots in retail business, as assistant manager of a department store and 29 years as a banker.

Running a successful business is not completely about an attractive set of goods; Soles notes that the important tasks bookkeeping and accounting can be just as challenging.

She pays tribute to her late sister, Nancy Brown, who “went to every home party and helped me set up the display, and then worked in my store after going on Main Street,” Soles said.
