Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society’s animal welfare programs and services touched the lives of more than 6,200 pets 2021. The pets who count on GMHS to be their voice and save their lives also count on the generosity of friends and supporters, and we are incredibly thankful for your role in bringing transformative change to the lives of those we serve. It is our pleasure to share with you the following heart connections and success stories from the first half of 2022.
Your investment transforms the lives of cats like “Kiki.” The arrival of Kiki marked the beginning of kitten season at GMHS. A beautiful adult grey and white tabby, she came into our care after she was found as a stray. During her intake exam, we discovered she was pregnant and due to have kittens any day. In our care, she safely gave birth to a litter of five adorable, healthy kittens. Kiki proved to be an excellent mother and gave them the best care possible. Kiki and her kittens were transferred together to one of our Highway to Home adoption-guaranteed partners. All will be altered and ultimately adopted into their forever homes. They will know the true love of a doting family because of you.
Your contributions save the lives of small animals like “Thumper.” Rabbit Thumper was brought into GMHS after being found as a stray in the yard of a Gloucester resident. Friendly Thumper met her forever family after 163 days in our care, and we know the next chapter of her life will be spent jumping for joy.
Your donations transform the lives of dogs like “Doreen.” If you visited the shelter or followed us on social media during the last several months, you are likely familiar with Doreen, a loveable senior dog. She entered our care in desperate need of ear surgery to alleviate chronic painful ear infections. With your generosity, Doreen received the medical care necessary to thrive. After healing from her surgery, Doreen was transferred to one our adoption-guaranteed partners through our Highway to Home program. We are thrilled to share that Doreen has made her heart connection and now knows the love of a forever family and can enjoy the rest of her days pain-free.
In addition to temporary shelter, veterinary care, and adoption of homeless pets cared for at GMHS and the Gloucester County Animal Control shelter, GMHS provided more than more than 33,000 pounds of pet food to our community through our Pet Pantry in 2021. The pantry is available to anyone in our area and helps keep pets out of the shelter and in their loving homes. If you or someone you know needs pet food assistance, please contact GMHS during our normal business hours. This pantry remains stocked because of generous donations from our friends like you.
GMHS is grateful to have friends and life-saving partners like you. Your support—and the many forms it takes—makes our mission to save and transforms the lives of pets in need possible. Thank you for making GMHS a beacon of hope and a safe harbor for homeless pets!
