Terrapin Cove sewer extension bids come in far above estimates

Residents of Gloucester Point’s Terrapin Cove neighborhood may be disappointed to learn that their sewer extension project could be put on hold after construction bids for the project have come in at double to triple the amount initially authorized by the county.

In an update given at the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors’ Feb. 18 meeting in the colonial courthouse, Gloucester’s public utilities director Marty Schlesinger said up to $250,000 was authorized for installation of sewer for phase one of the project with the option for the installation of gravity-fed sewer in phase two.

Schlesinger said the plans for these installations had been approved by the Virginia Department of Transportation and a bid package was issued.
