Talk to focus on TMDL implementation plan

Phil Olekszyk will address the Piankatank Community League in Harcum on Friday, giving a presentation on the current status of the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Implementation Plan for the lower end of the Piankatank River and its tributaries.

The plan for the Lower and Upper portion of the river was prepared by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.

Olekszyk’s presentation will cover the issues with regard to the prohibited shell- fishing areas in the lower Piankatank area. He will define the TMDL and the implementation plan, discuss whether it’s safe to eat oysters and fish from, or to swim in, the lower Piankatank.

The cost and role residents can play in fulfilling the TMDL will also be discussed.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and is open to the public. It will be held in the community league building on Harcum Road. For more information, call 694-4609.
