Supervisors to consider solar energy regulations

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors will consider changes to the zoning ordinance to add solar energy facilities (small, large and utility-scale) as specifically-defined uses during its meeting Wednesday night in the colonial courthouse. The regular meeting will begin at 7 o’clock and public hearings will start at 7:30. The meeting is being held on Wednesday because Tuesday is Election Day.

The proposed ordinance would permit small solar facilities by-right in all zoning districts, large-scale (up to five acres) solar facilities by-right in the I-1 district and by conditional use permit in all other districts, and utility scale (greater than five acres) solar facilities by CUP in all zoning districts.

The proposed ordinance also adds several new definitions related to solar energy facilities and provides certain safety, maintenance and decommissioning requirements for those facilities.
