Supervisors to consider Main Street setback proposal next week

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing Wednesday night during its meeting in the colonial courthouse on whether to allow awnings to project into the required setback and potentially into the public right-of-way, especially along Main Street.

The public hearing, which will begin at 8 o’clock, will require an amendment to the county’s zoning ordinance pertaining to architectural projections.

During the regular portion of the meeting, which will begin at 7, supervisors are expected to discuss the ongoing county reassessment; a request for a public hearing to consider amendments to county code pertaining to purchase of county-issued handguns by law enforcement and animal control officers and will also hear a financial report for the last quarter, which ended Sept. 30.

Next week’s meeting will take place on Wednesday, rather than Tuesday, because of the general election.
