The Mathews County Board of Supervisors, meeting on June 25, voted against an amendment to the county’s ordinance governing site development plans.

By a 3-0 vote, with chair Edwina Casey and member Janine Burns abstaining, supervisors decided not to approve the amendment to Article 17, which included extensive changes, because of just one of the proposed changes.

That change had been a sticking point for the board since it was first discussed during a joint work session with the planning commission in February.

Planners had recommended requiring a site plan review for a 1,000-square-foot or greater expansion of a home occupation, a general retail office, or a professional office—a stricter requirement than the 5,000-square-foot expansion that currently triggers a site plan review.
