Supervisors consider 7 cent increase in real estate levy

Gloucester supervisors could potentially consider a proposed real estate tax rate of 76.5 cents per $100 of assessed value, an increase of seven cents over the current rate, as the board prepares to hold a public hearing on its FY 2021 budget. No change is proposed in the county’s personal property tax rate.

Residents will get the chance to have their say on the proposed budget and its accompanying tax rates at a public hearing to be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25 in the T.C. Walker Education Center Auditorium.

Supervisors approved its advertised tax rates following a
roughly three-hour work session Monday, March 2 in the colonial courthouse. The
meeting included a presentation from County Administrator Brent Fedors, who
gave a detailed overview of expenses that the county will likely face in the
coming fiscal year.
