The Sugar Saloon, a candy lover’s dream, opened under new ownership Saturday at White Marsh Village Shopping Center on Route 17, Gloucester.
John Spring now owns and operates the business with his fiancée, Tiffany Luckham. Both reside in White Stone. The store was originally opened last November by Josh Brown and Frank Busch of Gloucester.
Spring said the 1,400-square-foot shop is filled with sweet treats. There are individual, bar and boxed candies from the United States and other countries including Great Britain and Switzerland.
Some of the candies are old favorites that aren’t seen on store shelves that much these days, such as Oh Henry and Bit o’ Honey, Spring said.
Others are newer favorites like Jelly Belly jelly beans, with The Sugar Saloon stocking 64 flavors. Spring said children especially like the candy tower, with an assortment of sweet and sour varieties that you can fill into an assortment of tube sizes.
Seasonal candy is stocked year round, making Christmas treats or Easter Peeps or Halloween candy available any time.
This is the first time Spring and Luckham have owned a business. Both are graduates of Lancaster High School. He previously was a truck driver. She had worked as bookkeeper for a White Stone business and at a day care center there. She earned a certificate in accounting at Rappahannock Community College.
