A total of 3,800 Dominion Virginia Power customers in the Gloucester-Mathews area experienced power outages during strong thunderstorms Sunday and Monday nights, said Karl Neddenien, a spokesman for the utility.

All power interruptions locally had been restored by Tuesday afternoon, Neddenien said Wednesday.

Neddenien said that trees falling on lines in more rural areas "makes it challenging" for the repair crews. On Tuesday, Dominion Virginia Power had 300 bucket trucks making repairs throughout the state, with the utility crews supported by contractors clearing limbs and debris near the power lines so repairs could be made more quickly.

There were strong winds and lightning in the Gloucester area and many other parts of the state during the long holiday weekend, Neddenien said.

Neddenien did not readily have specific outage location information for the Gloucester area.
