STEPHEN MARTIN ROBINS

Stephen Martin Robins, born on Dec. 17, 1924 went to be with his Lord on May 20, 2016. He lived 91 wonderful years in Gloucester, Va., touching the lives of many. 

Martin graduated from Botetourt High School. He served with the 13th Air Force in the Pacific Theatre for 27 months, during World War II. He was employed by Tidewater Telephone Company and Continental Telephone Company from 1946, until he retired in 1988. Once he retired from the telephone company, he and his wife Clay took up a lifelong hobby and business of restoring and refinishing antiques. He was also one of the staff members of Andrews Funeral Home from 1983 until 2015. 

Martin married the love of his life, Florence Clayton Roane of King and Queen in 1954. They shared 62 wonderful years together. He was blessed with one daughter, Susan Robins Moffitt; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia Hogge and James Monroe Robins; his sister, Minnie Robins McFarland, and an infant brother, James Thaddeous Robins. 

He is survived by his wife, Clay Roane Robins; his daughter, Susan Robins Moffitt and her husband Steve; a grandson, Steven Craig Moffitt Jr.; a granddaughter, Whitney Moffitt Adkins and her husband Brett; three great-grandchildren, Blake Aaron Adkins, Camden Martin Adkins, and Annabel Christine Moffitt; nephews, James F. McFarland and wife Esther, Paul W. McFarland and wife Diane and Harry L. McFarland and wife Glenda, and many other close friends and relatives. 

Martin was a member of Bellamy United Methodist Church from an early age. There he served as an usher, sang in the choir, and served on the building and the finance committee. He also used his talents in his church for repairs, woodworking and refinishing.

Martin lived his life for his family and friends, providing much love and respect and lots of wonderful garden vegetables. He also shared his talents of gardening and woodworking to all. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. 

Family and friends attended a visitation service at Andrews Funeral Home on Monday, May 23 from 6-7:30 p.m. 

Funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 24 at 11 a.m. at Bellamy United Methodist Church by the Rev. Kenneth Waclo. Burial was in Bellamy Memorial Cemetery. 

In Martin’s memory, donations may be made to either Bellamy United Methodist Church, 4870 Chestnut Fork Road, Gloucester, Va. 23061, Gloucester Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 1417, Gloucester, Va. 23061, or Riverside Walter Reed Hospice, 7358 Main Street, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
