STELLA ROSE BARTRON

Stella Rose Bartron, 93, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, April 19, 2019.

Stella was born in Emporia to the late Posie Meade and Stella Hobbs Vincent. She and her first husband, the late Rev. Frank L. Rose Jr., spent over 25 years in Norfolk while he served as rector of Church of the Ascension and she taught elementary school. Together, they had two children, Frank V. Rose (Bonnie) of Gloucester and Ann Rose Thompson (Craig) of Efland, North Carolina, who both survive her.

Following Frank’s death in 1982, Stella spent many of her retirement years at her home in Stove Point, enjoying fishing trips, summer afternoons in the pool and social gatherings with many dear friends and family members.

Stella had a passion for living life to its fullest, and she did so until her health began to fail her. She enjoyed numerous trips around the world and the United States. It was during one of these trips that she met her second husband, Thomas N. Bartron of Gloucester, who also survives her. The two married in 1998 and were blessed to spend 21 wonderful years together.

Stella also cherished her family, especially her three grandchildren, Quinton Sheppard (Megan) of Gloucester, Frank Rose (Audrey) of Prince George, and Alan Thompson (fiancée Meagan Flack) of Mebane, North Carolina. Most recently, she was blessed with a great-grandson, Aiden Sheppard of Gloucester, who all survive her.

Stella is also survived by her brother, Stuart Vincent and his wife Jean of Franklin, and a niece, Betsy Early (Kevin) of Harrisonburg.

The family would like to thank those that made Stella comfortable over the past year, including her caregivers Joan B. South, Lauren Jenkins, Barbara Kellum, Kellie Watson, Gayle Hudgins, Jamie Robins and Olivia Cross.

A celebration of Stella’s life will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Abingdon Episcopal Church, White Marsh, conducted by the Rev. Sven vanBaars. A reception will follow at the church’s Parish Hall. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1130, Gloucester, Va. 23061.

Hogg Funeral Home, Hayes, is in charge of arrangements.
