Gov. Bob McDonnell announced April 2 the awarding of $1 million total for three permanent supportive housing grants, including one to build 12 apartments in Gloucester.

The grants come from a special funding allocation of $1 million included in the governor’s budget for fiscal year 2013, said Jeff Caldwell, a spokesman for McDonnell.

Chuck Walsh, executive director of the Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Community Services Board, said that the grant will be administered by CSB for a nonprofit corporation it set up called Woodland Pointe Apartments. The 12 units will be located on a two-acre, undeveloped site off Belroi Road.

The apartments will include 10 one-bedroom units and two two-bedroom apartments, said Cindy Brown, the local CSB’s director of facilities management. All units will be for persons who are chronically handicapped or homeless, she said, and will be Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant.
