The winning businesses in Gloucester from a state-supported start-up program are holding special promotions this week as a thank you to the community for their first year in operation.
Sponsored by Gov. Terry McAuliffe, Launch Gloucester awarded the winning businesses a total of $95,000 in goods and services and start-up capital to open on Main Street. Gloucester was the lone county selected for the program, with Staunton and Hopewell the only cities selected for the special aid.
The Community Business Launch initiative was administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and locally overseen by the Gloucester Main Street Preservation Trust and Gloucester Main Street Association.
A release said additional funding, support and value of the program in Gloucester came from regional business support, the Gloucester Board of Supervisors, the Gloucester Economic Development Authority and the Gloucester Chamber of Commerce.
