Mathews High School graduate Donovan Forrest, the three-time state champion in track (twice in the 110m hurdles in outdoor track, and once in the 55-meter hurdles in indoor track) made a commitment to Virginia State University in a signing ceremony last Thursday evening at MHS. Forrest, seated, was surrounded by his parents, Donovan Forrest Jr. and O’Shae Forrest, his brother Legend and sister Adrianna, and, at right, MHS track coach Tony Forrest. Among those in attendance at last Thursday’s signing were Gloucester Union Relief Association members Brinda Jones and Brenda Davis, who helped guide Forrest to the HBCU school and through the financial aid process.
