Scott Shorland, construction manager for Gloucester County Public Schools, presented awards in February to Virginia Tech architecture students honored for their designs of a new middle school.

The third-year architecture students were participants in a competition sponsored by the Virginia Educational Facility Planners (VEFP) and the state chapter of the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI). The contest engaged the students in the process of school design, using a site chosen by Virginia Tech faculty members and the educational program developed for the new Page Middle School in Gloucester.

The competition was judged by Virginia architects, school superintendents and construction managers in December. The students presented their designs and described their six-week-long design processes during the CEFPI VEFP conference held in Richmond in February, where Shorland presented their awards.
