Services announced by local churches

Special services and other activities in churches this week, include the following:

Apostles Lutheran

Apostles Lutheran Church, Gloucester, has canceled its 9:30 a.m. Sunday service. A virtual worship service can be found on the church’s website, www.apostles-elca.org.

Bethany United Methodist

Bethany United Methodist Church, Gloucester Point, will celebrate Easter Sunday with a service on the church’s YouTube channel at www.bethanyumc-gp.org/media-resources. The sermon title of Pastor Mike Derflinger will be “Life Practices from an Empty Tomb.” For more information on our online services and the latest updates from Bethany UMC, visit www.bethanyumc-gp.org.

The annual community Easter sunrise service at VIMS has been canceled.

Central United Methodist

A Maundy Thursday reflection by the Rev. John Choi, pastor of Central United Methodist Church, Mathews, will be offered online on the church’s YouTube channel at 7 p.m. The channel can be found on the church’s homepage, www.centralumcmathews.org.

An Easter service will be also be livestreamed at 9:15 a.m. on April 12.

Gleaning Baptist

The Good Samaritan Food Ministry of Gleaning Baptist Church, Gloucester, will host drive-thru food pick-up from noon-2 p.m. on Wednesdays (only).

There will be a drive-thru Easter service and prayer in the church parking lot at 11 a.m. Everyone is asked to remain in their car, a release said.

Gloucester Point Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor Bud Goude of Gloucester Point Baptist Church will be “Easter is Our Second Chance.” The online Easter service can be found at gloptbaptist.org.

Grace Covenant Presbyterian

Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Gloucester, continues to practice social distancing. The Sunday worship service will be on Facebook and can be watched even after the regular start time of 10:30 a.m. The sermon title will be “Jesus Rises: Without a Doubt.”

Gwynn’s Island Baptist

The sermon title of Dr. Ed Jordan, pastor of Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church on Easter will be “Some Gifts of the Resurrection.” The online message is available on the church website, gibchurch.com. Some musical items will also be offered. All other church activities are canceled until further notice.

Kingston Episcopal Parish

Kingston Parish, Mathews, with the guidance of the Rt. Rev. Susan E. Goff, Bishop Suffragan of The Diocese of Virginia, has canceled all church services and activities for the foreseeable future.

Online services, some in conjunction with Ware and Abingdon Episcopal churches, continue Maundy Thursday with a livestream via Ware’s Facebook page beginning at 7 p.m. On Good Friday, a video on The Way of the Cross, by the Very Rev. Gary Barker will be available at www.kpepiscopal.org. The Holy Saturday Easter Vigil sponsored by Kingston and eight other Lutheran and Episcopal churches begins at 7 p.m. on www.youtube.com/channel/UC6n-LvBdSZjq0XOYmG-5MA. Easter Sunday service will begin at 9 a.m. on the Kingston website and Facebook page.

Kingston Parish seamstresses continue to be involved in a Making Masks Ministry for local doctors, medical offices and people in need. Any and all who can help, call Berni La Casse at 804-384-7740.

LIGHTHOUSE

LightHouse, Ordinary, will celebrate Easter with drive-in services at 8 and 10 a.m. Come as you are and stay in your car while celebrating Jesus’s resurrection. Additionally, a service will be livestreamed from the church’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/lwcfb/, for those who may not be able to attend. Plan to arrive on campus by 7:45 for the 8 o’clock service and 9:30 for the 10 o’clock service to help with the flow of traffic and parking. Links to the livestream will be shared via email and on the Facebook page; it will be archived there as well.

Mathews Baptist

Although there are no in person services at Mathews Baptist Church, Hudgins, you can worship virtually at 9 a.m. (or at your convenience). A link to the service can be found on the church’s Facebook page. All services are also viewable on the Mathews Baptist Church YouTube channel.

New Hope Christian

The sermon title of Prophetess Cheryl Forrest of New Hope Christian Church at 11 a.m. Sunday will be “In His Hands.” All services will be on Facebook Live.

New Hope Independent Baptist

Pastor David Seabolt of New Hope Independent Baptist Church, Gloucester, will live-stream the Sunday and Wednesday worship services via the church Facebook page.

In addition, church members will continue to conduct the open food pantry for those in need with curbside pickup on the third Saturday of each month from 9-11 a.m. at the church.

ShepHerdsville Baptist

Shepherdsville Baptist Church, Gloucester, will hold its Sunday service at 10:45 a.m. with prayer, praise and preaching. Call 712-770-4112 access code 876749#, to celebrate Resurrection Sunday, over the phone.

The First United Baptist

The sermon title of Pastor E. Randolph Graham of the First United Baptist Church, White Marsh, for the 11:15 a.m. Sunday service will be “The Resurrection Surprise.” The service will be streamed live via Facebook, Zoom “Call Me,” and the webpage, thefubcgloucesterva.fatcow.com. There will be no in-person service.

Unitarian universalist fellowship of the Rappahannock

Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock, White Stone, has canceled all April services.

Westville Baptist

Westville Baptist Church, Mathews, has canceled all of its services until further notice. Everyone is encouraged to worship and pray at home, a release said.

Zion Poplars Baptist

Zion Poplars Baptist Church, Gloucester, has canceled its Sunday services.
