Serenity Garden dedicated at Central UMC

Central United Methodist Church, Mathews, dedicated a Serenity Garden on Sunday, June 1.
Linda Dalgety, chair of the Mission and Evangelism Committee which constructed the garden, said it is a place where anyone, church member or not, can stop for a moment “to meet or think or talk to God … a place not requiring that someone unlock the door” to the church.
She emphasized that the garden is open to the public.
Dalgety envisioned the garden last year on a piece of land at Central that was not in use. She proposed her idea to the mission committee, which endorsed it, and received approval from the church. Then church members got to work.
After preparing the land, the members planted bulbs last fall and put together a Christmas theme to end the year. This spring they completed work on the garden, leading to its dedication at the beginning of this month.
The garden has benches and pavers for ease of movement and rest, and a birdbath provided as a resting place for nature.
