As of Friday, Sentara Urgent Care will be Velocity Urgent Care.

Velocity will take over management of seven Sentara Urgent Care centers in the Hampton Roads area, including the center in the Gloucester Medical Arts building at the entrance to the Gloucester Business Park, White Marsh, said Alan A. Ayers, chief executive officer of the new Velocity office in Williamsburg that will now manage the seven centers.

Sentara will continue to own the facility and Velocity will manage the urgent care component, Ayers said. Meanwhile, Sentara will continue leasing other space in the Medical Arts building to medical providers.

Some minor renovations are planned for the local center, he said. The center will be closed for business today and reopen on Friday morning.

Velocity has 10 employees at the Gloucester center and a total of 180 among the seven Hampton Roads centers. Most employees that worked for Sentara chose to remain to work for Velocity, Ayers said. The center is staffed with nurse p...
