Sentara Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Specialists recently opened a satellite office at the Sentara Medical Arts building in the Gloucester Business Park, White Marsh.

Dr. Alan Goldberg, one of four physicians in the practice, said they staff the Gloucester office part-time, with most of their practice located at the Sentara CarePlex in Hampton. The practice specializes in diseases of the lungs, including nodules and asthma, Goldberg said. Patients are seen age 18 and older, with children referred to other specialists. Also at Sentara CarePlex, they cover the Intensive Care Unit.

Many people suffer from sleep apnea, which is an obstruction of the airway that can lead to other health problems like stroke and high blood pressure if left untreated, Goldberg said. A special medical apparatus is often recommended to help regulate breathing while the patient is sleeping.
