Sea Scouts to launch at GHS Feb. 10

The Middle Peninsula Sea Scouts, sponsored by the Mathews Maritime Foundation, is gathering prospective Sea Scouts and supporters for a kick-off meeting from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at Gloucester High School.

The organization is looking for boys and girls who range in age from ninth graders to 20-year-olds to help put the Sea Scout ship afloat, said a press release from Skipper John Bonner.

Scouts who have already registered and their families will be at the meeting, along with the skipper, mates, adult leaders who have registered, and merit badge counselors who are interested in sharing their skills. Information about the ships committed will be available, as well.

When a ship is first launched, it is empty and needs to be filled by the scouts themselves, said the release. The meeting will discuss what choice of uniform to wear and what kind of activities and events members would like to participate in.
