ABINGDON: The Abingdon Elementary School PTA will sponsor a Fall Festival from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the school. The event will include games, family activities, a bounce house and an obstacle course. A walk-a-thon in the memory of Valerie Thornton will precede the festival from 5 to 6 p.m. Also, if an ongoing PTA fundraiser reaches its goal by tomorrow, festival-goers will see Abingdon principal LaQuiche Parrott kiss Wilbur the Pig.

GIFTED EDUCATION: The Mathews County Local Advisory Committee on Gifted Education will meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, in the S.A.I.L. classroom at Thomas Hunter Middle School.
