Rachel Morgan Abbott, daughter of Linda Tjossem of Hayes and Deke and Susan Abbott of Anchorage, Alaska, received a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction degree from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, graduating magna cum laude. Abbott was named the outstanding graduate student of the music education department.  Abbott, a 2014 Gloucester High School graduate, is pursuing employment as a high school music teacher.

Shelby Alto of Gloucester received a Student Life Award during a spring semester and end-of-the-academic year recognitions and awards program held April 24 at Eastern Mennonite University. 
Alto’s award recognized her role as the products manager for the Common Grounds Coffeehouse, EMU’s student-run gathering place located in the University Commons.
