Chowan University freshmen Elizabeth Marie Stokes of Hudgins, and Jalen Naisir Thomas of Susan, were named to the North Carolina school’s dean’s list for the fall 2017 semester. To qualify for dean’s list, students must have attained a grade point average between 3.25 and 3.79.

Elizabeth Ransone was inducted into the Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa in a ceremony at the College of William and Mary on Dec. 8. Phi Beta Kappa members are selected on the basis of outstanding academic achievement in the liberal arts and support from faculty members. Founded at William and Mary in 1776, the Alpha Chapter is the most selective in the nation, a release said. Ransone is a senior at the college with majors in biology and geography. She is the daughter of Drs. Karen and Sterling Ransone of Cobbs Creek.
