School board gets cost estimates for GHS renovation

The Gloucester School Board got its first look at cost estimates for a planned major renovation project at Gloucester High School during its Jan. 24 meeting at the T.C. Walker Education Center. 

Stephen Halsey, of Moseley Architects, estimated the project at $70.2 million to $71.9 million with a design time of 10 to 12 months and construction taking 26 to 28 months. 

The building renovation plans include new roof, HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems along with additions of 16,000 to 22,000 square feet. The project will also improve instructional technology and make ADA/accessibility improvements.

Halsey estimated the cost at $70.2 million for the renovation with the 16,000 square foot addition and $71.9 million with the 22,000 addition. The estimates include the cost of portable classrooms.
