The Mathews Rotary Club recently selected Hands Across Mathews for its annual service project.
Each year, Rotary provides funds and manpower to help a nonprofit implement a needed project, said a press release. Last fall, Mike Carone of Hands Across Mathews submitted a grant request asking for help re-graveling the parking lot and warehouse access road of the group’s facilities in downtown Mathews.
Rotary purchased the gravel, and Rotary volunteers were prepared to work alongside HAM volunteers to get the job done, said the release. However, Andy Eubank, a Rotary member with a tractor and blade, was able to spread all the gravel without any other assistance.
On top of that, April Edwards, also a Mathews Rotary member, supplied the gravel at a discounted rate through her company, Virginia Marine Contracting.
Carone expressed gratitude for the help.
