RONALD MONROE ‘RONNIE’ OLIVER

Ronald Monroe “Ronnie” Oliver, 71, of Hayes, died at his home Nov. 17, 2018, with family at his side. Ronnie was a 1966 graduate of Gloucester High School and 1971 graduate of the Apprentice School at Newport News Shipbuilding. After working at the Newport News Shipyard for 43 years, he became a Master Craftsman, retiring as an Industrial Engineer.

Ronnie was a lifelong member of Beech Grove Baptist Church and a church trustee. He was past president of the Gloucester Golf Association and played on the Industrial League. Family was always first, and he loved and supported his grandchildren in all their endeavors. A devoted husband, father and grandfather he leaves behind a legacy of dignity, integrity and respect for all he loved. He was always there for his family and friends whenever they needed him. His honesty, strength and depth of character will forever remain in our hearts. He was a special man.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Audrey Oliver; sister, Patsy Oliver, and mother-in-law, Betty Galloway. Ronnie leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife of 48 years, Sylvia G. Oliver; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Eileen Oliver; grandchildren, Kaylee Dutton (David), Kelsee and Kollin Oliver; father-in-law, William Galloway; brothers-in-law, Ben Galloway (Maria) and David Galloway; sister-in-law, Ann (Paul) Oliver; as well as nieces and nephews.

Memorial service was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. The family received friends prior to the service on Tuesday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment followed the service in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery.
