RONALD BOYD STEPHENSON

Ronald Boyd Stephenson, age 78, of Gloucester Point, Va., passed away peacefully on January 27, 2024. He was born March 20, 1945 in Newport News, Va., to Eugene and Marie Lamb Stephenson. He was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va. He later attended the College of the Albemarle and the University of South Carolina.

He was employed as a home builder and general contractor, and later was co-founder and owner of Stephenson Child Care with locations in Gloucester and Newport News.

He resided for nearly 50 years in Gloucester with many of those years in the last home he built located on Sarah’s Creek. When not in Gloucester, he spent weekends at his “Cottage” in Nags Head, N.C.

He enjoyed spending weekends and boating with family at his parents’ house on Gwynn’s Island and many elk hunting trips in Colorado. He ran cross country in high school and enjoyed long runs into adulthood as well as snow skiing. He loved to travel and was a connoisseur of great hole-in-wall restaurants and dive bars. And he loved football.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Evans Stephenson and Marie Lamb Stephenson. He is survived by his children, Ronald Boyd Stephenson II (Alicia) of Newbury-port, Mass., Christopher Conner Stephenson (Kada) of Oxford, Miss., and Cameron Dianne Saville of Blowing Rock, N.C.; his brother, Eugene Evans Stephenson Jr.; seven grandchildren, Raina Pendry, Parker Stephenson, Peyton Stephenson, Jackson Stephenson, Avery Stephenson, Ramsey Saville, and Emma Stephenson.
