ROBERT E. WHITE III

Robert (Rob) was a resident of Hayes. He passed peacefully at home on March 8, 2016 with his loving family at his side. He fought a courageous battle with cancer. He never complained and his faith was a great comfort to him.

Rob was born in 1982 at Southampton, N.Y; resided on Shelter Island, N.Y., for his first eight years of life before moving to Fancy Gap, Va. After graduating high school he attended the Jefferson College of Health Sciences in Roanoke for two years where he received his degree as a Paramedic, and later graduated from Thomas Nelson Community College in 2011, where he received his RN. Prior to moving to Hayes, he worked in Roanoke as a Dispatcher with Carilion. Upon graduating as an RN, he worked at Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester, Va.

Rob at 18 years of age became a volunteer EMT before becoming a Paramedic. He loved helping people and was highly regarded by his co-workers, always going the extra mile to lend a helping hand. He was a great nurse who had a fabulous sense of humor and loved his co-workers and patients alike. He could make a long midnight shift go by quickly, usually with multiple practical jokes.

He was an avid Civil War re-enactor and loved to travel. He enjoyed his yearly trips to Disney so much so that he and his wife Liz were married in the Chapel of the Grand Floridian in Disney. He played and lived life to the fullest.

Rob is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Elizabeth Dysko White; his parents, Robert (Bob) White, Jr. and Kristin (Kris) White, and brother, Gregory White.

Rob’s final request was that in lieu of flowers a donation to St. Jude’s be made in his memory.

A mass at Saint Joan of Arc in Yorktown will be held on March 18, at 11a.m. His family hopes that you join them to celebrate Rob’s life. Prior to the service family will greet friends and a reception will follow.

Burial will be private.
