Riverside urges community to take precautions as cases rise

As COVID-19 cases hit a record high, Riverside Health System is advising those in the community to practice safety precautions and get a COVID-19 vaccine.

Health systems and providers came together in an unprecedented way last year to fight the pandemic and meet its challenges.

Now, with the Delta variant, cases are approaching the initial COVID-related totals witnessed at the peak in January 2021.

Across Riverside Health System, an overwhelming majority, approximately 80 percent, of COVID-19 related hospitalizations are unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated, a release said. The following is a summary of Riverside patients discharged over the last 30 days that had confirmed COVID at the time of discharge:

—Ages 19-49: 92 percent of this age group were unvaccinated/partially vaccinated;

—Ages 50-64: 93 percent of this age group were unvaccinated/partially vaccinated;

—Ages 65-95: 61 percent of this age group were unvaccinated/partially vaccinated;
