Revolutionary War event in Gloucester this weekend

History will come alive this weekend on Gloucester Court Green in “Fire, Smoke & Muskets: Gloucester 1781.”

Hours on Saturday at 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; on Sunday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Hourly cannon and musket firing demonstrations, reenactors, campfire cooking and colonial-era games and music are part of the show. Reenactors will talk with visitors about what life was like for soldiers and civilians in Gloucester during the American Revolution.

One reenactor will represent Lauzun’s Legion and will discuss its role in the victory at Yorktown.

Mark Schneider of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation will appear in the colonial courthouse at 4 p.m. Saturday as Banastre Tarleton. He was the British general defeated at Battle of the Hook shortly before the surrender of Cornwallis to George Washington at Yorktown.

“Boo, hiss, ask questions—experience history during this family-friendly theatrical performance,” a release said.
