Return to the Hook, the largest Revolutionary War re-enactment in the U.S. this year, was held this past weekend on the grounds of the Inn at Warner Hall in Gloucester. The event was a rousing success, with an estimated 1,500 re-enactors taking part in the two days of battles and camp life. Above, colonial troops form a line of battle. The Battle of the Hook was one of the final battles of the Revolutionary War, 16 days before the British surrendered at Yorktown. It included the largest cavalry engagement of the war, with 500 or more horsemen engaged, and it was a decisive factor in the Americans’ victory.
