Property owners who experienced damage or destruction during recent fires to homes, vehicles or other personal property may be able to receive abatement for tax levies, according to Gloucester County’s Commissioner of the Revenue Kevin Wilson.

Several brush fires, including a large blaze in the Signpine area, consumed about 700 acres on Saturday, Feb. 19.

Wilson said impacted property owners should notify his office to receive abatement for tax levies prorated for the portion of the year the building is not fit for use, occupancy or enjoyment.

According to Gloucester County Code, buildings that are razed, or which have been destroyed or damaged due to natural or accidental events beyond the control of the owner, shall receive abatement for tax levies prorated for the portion of the year the building is not fit for use, occupancy or enjoyment.
