What could be more fun than crabbing from a dock in the summertime?
To help the younger set get started with this time-honored tradition, the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum will offer “Take a Kid Crabbing” from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, at the museum. The program is offered free to the public.
Museum board member Tim Abrahams is the organizer of this new event. He has been crabbing his whole life and has spent hundreds of hours crabbing off a dock with his own kids. He will supply everything needed: chicken necks on a string and dip nets.
The children will put the bait into the creek at the museum’s dock. He’ll demonstrate how to pull the string up slowly so a helper can net the crab. He also will bring some small crab traps kids can bait and drop off the dock.
He also plans to bring some live crabs caught from his house and give a demonstration on how to steam them. The kids can sample them if they want.
