An early morning shower didn’t faze participants in this year’s Gwynn’s Island Festival, and their persistence was worth the wait. Bright, clear skies soon broke through and brought out a crowd of visitors.
Event organizers Cricket Call and Carol Sharp were enthusiastic about the festival Saturday morning.
"It’s going great," said Call. "It’s gone absolutely without a flaw," said Sharp.
There were 104 vendor booths this year—a record for the 65-year-old festival—and that was after a few didn’t show up. One vendor’s car broke down on the way in, said Sharp.
In addition to the vast array of vendors hawking everything from bookmarks to furniture, there were balloons and a bounce house for children, a car show for aficionados, an ambulance "open house," entertainment throughout the day, and lots of food.
Sharp said a friend had heard someone else say that the Gwynn’s Island Festival is "a must-see."
