Thomas Hunter Middle School FCCLA vice president Kaitlyn Ball, at right, planned and is in the process of working on a service project called “Reaching Out to Those Who Can’t Get Out.” Her initial project was going to be reaching out to residents of the Riverside Lifelong Health & Rehabilitation Mathews with handmade cards and decorating their common area as well as doing some crafts with the residents. Sadly, there was a temporary pause in visitors and she had to revise her plan. Ball made and delivered Valentine’s Day cards and then worked in conjunction with the Family and Consumer Science classes to create handmade St. Patrick’s Day cards, make, package and deliver three weeks’ worth of sweet treats for Nelda Gibbs to give to her Meals on Wheels recipients. There were a total of over 600 cookies delivered over the last few weeks. In addition to this, she led a book, magazine and jigsaw puzzle drive to the nursing home that resulted in an abundance so large that she was able to deliver to the RLHR, The Gloucester House, as well as some puzzles for the Riverside Cancer Center. Shown here with Ball and Gibbs is FCCLA member Shanell Conrow.
