Six members from the Piankatank River Ladies’ Golf Association competed in the 79th Virginia State Golf Association Women’s Championship Team Matches played on Aug. 5-7 at the Hermitage Country Club in Manakin-Sabot. The Piankatank team beat the Army Navy Country Club in the semifinals to compete for the championship round. The team went on to win the 5th Flight Championship in a four-ball match play format against the team from the Club at Viniterra by a score of 33.5 to 20.5. Team members included, from left, captain Kay Stout from Heathsville, Michele Meanley from Hallieford, Nina Carter from Gloucester, Gina Custis from Hartfield, Vicky Gunn from Cobbs Creek, and Martha Wiggs from Hayes.
